Chasing sunsets
Probably all photographers, amateur and professional alike, will find themselves sometimes chasing sunsets. It happens to me frequently because I will take shots of a scene in my area that I know needs better lighting. The Magic Hour is fleeting in Amsterdam so I end up running from spot to spot on my scooter during the few days I get a chance to chase sunsets. I find that rarely do I get a shot that I am pleased with during this rush so I need to adjust my strategy a little. The above shot I do like, mostly because it was a huge improvement over another version I took last year in the same spot.
My post-processing is getting better, as well as my shooting technique. This was 3x hand-held frames combined in Photomatix to do the tone-mapping, then Unsharp Mask, a reduce noise and a quick crop in Photoshop and I was smiling at the results. I was able to capture the lighting, colors and contrast without having to be so heavy handed in post-processing (outside of the tone-mapping).
More of my latest sunset chase is on Flickr.
